Countdown to CGI 2021!

We are working hard on our plan to safely operate our in-person summer programs for Summer 2021 at near-full capacity. As always, the physical and emotional health and safety of our campers and staff is our top priority and we are committed to continuing our pattern of open communication with you.

In accordance with the State of Illinois guidance for Phase 5, we'll be following the policies set forth by the CDC to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and keep our camp family safe. Cick here for the full policy from the CDC.

Our medical advisers are hopeful that with our prevention strategies, we won't experience any cases of COVID in camp. In the unlikely event that there is a COVID case or exposure, we will consult with our medical team and advise about quarantines on a case-by-case basis. In the unlikely event of a COVID closure, we can not guarantee refunds.

General Prevention:

Mask Policy:

  • Indoors. Mask use indoors is strongly encouraged for people who are not fully vaccinated including children. No child under the age of 2 should wear a mask.
  • Outdoors. Campers will not be required to wear masks outdoors.
  • Buses. Campers will be required to wear masks when on the bus.

  Physical Distancing:

  • At least 3 feet between all campers within a cohort
  • At least 6 feet between all campers outside of their cohort
  • At least 6 feet while eating and drinking without a mask indoors, including among people within the same cohort
  • At least 6 feet between campers and staff
  • At least 6 feet between staff
Frequently Asked Questions
  1. Will CGI be running an in-person program for Summer 2021?
YES! Following the success of last year’s socially-distant modified program, it has become clear that a CGI summer is possible while adhering to the recommended guidelines. We are planning to once again operate an in-person summer camp program at near-capacity to safely give our campers the summer of a lifetime!
  1. What will an in-person camp program look like in 2021?
We are excited to be bringing back so much of the CGI fun this summer, including field trips, swimming, and electives. In accordance with the CDC and ACA, we'll be practicing "cohorting" and there will be minimal mixing between cohorts, but we know our campers will love having their favorite activities back this year! See the list below for some of the COVID changes to our program.

Field Trips:
We are excited to be bringing back weekly field trips to CGI!

  • What's New:   The majority of this year's field trips will be trips that offer a full or partial outdoor venue. We will be utilizing additional buses to allow for the required spacing in accordance with the CDC safety guidelines. For the full camp calendar, click here.

Aquatics
With the current guidance that we have received, swimming and aquatic activities will be back this year!

  • What's New:  Our pool is conveniently located at the Goldfish Swim School in Northbrook. While circumstances will prohibit us from swimming 3x a week as we have in the past, we'll be swimming off-site once a week and providing aquatic activities on-site.

Electives
Another favorite for CGI campers, our "elective" skill workshops are back for 2021 with an added bonus!

  • What's New:   Due to the no-mixing rule between cohorts, our instructors will be rotating between each cohort and all campers will have the opportunity to participate in all skill workshops that we are offering this year.
  1. What medical professionals are involved in decisions related to camp programming?
Our medical decisions are guided by our camp Doctor, as well as the guideline set forth by the American Camp Association, local experts in IL, and the CDC. We have also incorporated much of what we have learned from safely operating camp last year in creating this year’s program.
